Roulette is a casino game that is played on a table with the wheel and a roulette betting layout. On the wheel there are slots with alternate pairs of odd and even numbers which are black and red. There is also green Zero and double zero in American roulette. 36 numbers on the table layout are arranged in three columns. Each column has 12 numbers. You can see all the possible bets in the table below.
Up to eight players may play roulette at the same time. All of them bet against the casino, which is represented by a croupier. Roulette tables in different casinos have different maximum and minimum bets. Players placed bets on the table with the help of coloured chips that are taken from the croupier. As soon as all the bets have been placed, the croupier spins the wheel and the ball in two opposite direction. As the ball loses speed, the croupier announces that there are no more bets. Once the ball has stopped in a slot, the croupier puts a dolly on the corresponding box on the table layout, pays out the wins and removes the bets from the layout for the next spin. Players exchange coloured chips won in a spin for value chips from the croupier. Then they can exchange those value chips for cash.
Each player has chips of a different colour and can make lots of bets on a single spin. Below you can see different types of bets and their payouts. Bets can be placed on an individual number or numbers, groups of numbers, colour. Thus, if you bet on that box in the table layout that says "red," and any red number falls out, you win.

Some casinos have 'Surrender' and 'En Prison' rules for even money bets. In Surrender, you will get half of your even-money bet back if the ball stops on the single or double zero. 'En Prison': when the ball stops on the single or double zero, your even-money bet stays in its place. If you win on that next spin, you will get back all your chips with no extra wins; if you lose, your bet is lost either; if a zero comes up, your bet remains En Prison.
The wheel in an American roulette has two slots with zero: zero and double zero. An additional slot on the wheel gives the house a higher advantage than a 'European' roulette wheel that has one zero slot. Thus, the house edge in the 'American' roulette with two zero slots is 5.26% while in the European' roulette with a single zero wheel the house edge is 2.7%.
